FC Internazionale named as opponents for bwin Trofeo Naranja
Valencia CF will face FC Internazionale in the 48th edition of the bwin Trofeo Naranja, to be held at Mestalla on August 10th at 9:30pm local time. The Italian team, who finished fourth in Serie A last season, will be the final preseason opponents for Marcelino’s men ahead of the start of the LaLiga season, which gets underway one week later.
Inter are 18-time ‘Scudetto’ winners, and 3-time winners of the European Cup/Champions League. Like Valencia CF, they have qualified for a place in this season’s edition of the prestigious continental tournament.
Before the current version of the bwin Trofeo Naranja was introduced in 1970, four forerunners were contested at Mestalla. Inter were Valencia CF’s opponents in the first of these, played in 1959, alongside Santos FC. Valencia CF beat Inter 1-0, with a goal from Walter Marciano.
The most recent meeting between the two teams was back in 2013 in New Jersey, in a preseason game as part of the International Champions Cup. Goals scored by Jonathan Viera (x2), Ever Banega and Jonas gave VCF a 0-4 win.
‘bwin Trofeo Naranja’
The historic trophy game takes on the name of the club's Main Global Partner from this season, to become the bwin Trofeo Naranja. The online bookmakers are now the sponsors of the preseason trophy game, as well as having a presence on the front of the 2019/20 kit, advertising hoardings and the Valencia CF digital universe.
